I don’t like shopping. No, I should rephrase that. I don’t like shopping when I can’t find what I want. My shopping experiences seem to be hit-and-miss most of the time. I either can’t find my size or colour, or I miss the sales altogether. So I am usually paying full price for everything. It isn’t surprising then that my shopping experiences tend to be frustrating. I think it is because when I make time to shop I expect to find what I am looking for and not come home empty handed. When the latter happens, I feel like I wasted my time and energy, and I think that is why I foolishly pay full price for an item then and there instead of coming home empty handed and waiting for the next sale. At my worst, I used to buy all my outfits from just one shop; paying whatever price is on the tags instead of shopping around for similar outfits with cheaper price tags. Of course, once a got home with my items, I usually regret being hasty and not shopping around more for cheaper prices or not waiting for a sale. But who has the time to walk from shop to shop to compare prices when you work full-time and have a busy social life?
That was me then when I was single with no children and only had myself to take care. The me now is not much different, time wise. I still don’t have a lot of time on my hands, but difference is that I am on a tighter budget now because I have young children and am not working full-time. However, I am a smarter shopper now. Thanks to the Internet, I can buy retro dresses online in the comfort of my own home. No more battling traffic and rushing through my shopping because I can take my time to browse through the stock online not just from one shop, but from as many shops as I want. And the best part is that I can shop in the middle of the night when the children have gone to bed. I don’t have to worry about the shops closing at a certain time because the online shop never shuts. I can find formal dresses online, bodycon dresses, you name it. I can even check my size online before placing my order. With most online stores, I can order the items online and choose whether to pick the order up from a selected store or have the order delivered to my doorstep.
I am slowly discovering the joys of shopping. I suspect it is because I can shop at my leisure, at any time of day and I don’t have to battle traffic or the crowds. Plus, I have managed to catch many sales from shopping online; thus saving me a bundle.
